Characters -Fiction

Types of Characters

TermDefinition
Character Traits It’s who a character is on the inside; their personality. It is shown by what the character says, does, or thinks.
Protagonist The main character , who is usually the hero.
Antagonist The opposing force of the main character.
Dynamic or Developing The character who changes throughout the story
Flat or Static The character who doesn’t change much or at all throughout the story. Their personality and/or background isn’t revealed well and we only know a handful of traits about them.
Foil The character who is the opposite of another character. They reflect the opposite traits.
Round The character that is similar to a dynamic character. They change throughout the story gaining new traits, some traits opposite to who they used to be.
Villain Similar to the antagonist; but they are evil.
Character A person, usually in a work of art, novel, movie, or play.
Plot The sequence of events in a story. Each event causes or leads to the next.
