Q: What is diffusion (in one real sentence)? Random motion causes net movement from high concentration → low concentration until equilibrium.
Why is diffusion always mentioned before transport types? Because passive transport is just diffusion, either through lipid (simple) or through a protein (facilitated).
What is a concentration gradient? A difference in amount of a substance across space (or across a membrane).
What is an electrochemical gradient? The “push” from concentration difference + charge difference (important for ions).
If a cell couldn’t maintain gradients, what breaks first? The cell loses control of what enters/leaves → can’t make/use energy properly → cell can’t survive.
