Blood Components
Blood flows through the body's cardiovascular system.

| Whole Blood | The most common type of blood specimen collected. It's drawn into a collection tube that contains an anticoagulant to prevent clotting. It's used for various test such as CBC, blood typing and blood chemistry analysis. |
| Plasma | Makes up 55% of blood volume and is predominantly water which constitutes about 91% |
| Erythrocytes | Red blood cells characterized by their hemoglobin content. They have a life span of 120 days before the bone marrow generates new red blood cells to replace them |

| How many types of white blood cells | Monocytes, Lymphocytes, Neutrophils, Eosinophils (a type of granulocyte) Eosinophils, Basophils |
| Role of white blood cells | They each play a role in protecting the body from infection by attacking pathogens and creating antibodies. |
| Platelets | Small cell fragments that are crucial for the blood clotting process. |
