alcohol a drug, found in drinks such as beer, wine, and liquor, absorbed directly into the blood stream
blood alcohol level (BAL) the amount of alcohol in a person's body
depressant substance that slows the body down by decreasing the speed at which messages travel along nerve cells to and from the brain, decreasing the activity of the central nervous system
intoxicated drunk
alcoholic person who is dependent on alcohol and needs to drink it to feel normal
alcoholism disease in which people cannot control their use of alcohol
cirrhosis scar tissue in the liver that can prevent the liver from processing blood
