| Third person omniscient | A storytelling perspective that shows every characters point of view |
| Phrase | A group of words that lacks a subject-verb pair |
| Central Theme | The big idea an author conveys through a story |
| Central Idea | The main message an author wants to share |
| Revision | The act of improving something |
| Formal vs. Informal Tone | Formal tone is used for professional contexts while informal tone is used for relaxed context |
| Objective Summary | A neutral overtone of a text's main point |
| Conclusion | The end or finish of a text |
| Claim | State that something is the case without proof |
| Perspective | A point of view on a certain matter |
| Point of View | The narrative perspective from which a story is told |
| Primary Purpose | The goal or reason for existence |
| Relevant vs. Irrelevant | Relevant information directly supports a subject while irrelevant is unimportant for the subject |
| Primary or primarily | Primary describes something as fundamental; primarily means for the msot part |
| Connotation | An idea that a word invokes in addition to its literal meaning |
| Emphasis | Special importance given to something |
| Contribute | Giving an order to achieve something |
| Inference | A conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning |
| Omit | Leave out or exclude something intentionally or forgetfully |
| Analogy | Compare two unrelated subjects that highlight their shared relationships to clarify a complex idea |
| Allusion | A reference without mentioning it by name |
| Antonym | A word that has the exact opposite meaning of another word |
| Synonym | A word that means the exact same thing as another word |
| Interrogative | A sentence that asks a question |
| Indicative | Used to express a fact |
| Subjunctive | Expresses doubt |
| Imperative | Express commands, requests, or instructions |
| Conditional | Express a proposition |
| Stanza | A group of lines forming a basic recurring metrical unit in poems |
| Transition | The process of words or phrases changing the subject to another |
| Dialogue | A conversation between two or more people |
| Ellipsis | The omission from speech, marking an unfinished sentence |
| Maintain Focus | Eliminate distracting side pieces of information to focus on the main point |
| Acknowledge an opposing view point | Respectfully state a different perspective to enhance credibility |
| Concise/ Precise | Expressing much in few words |
| Convey meaning | Make an idea understandable to someone |
| Active vs. Passive voice | Active: when subject preforms the action Passive: when subject receives the action |
