EBD maladaptive patterns of behavior or emotional regulation that significantly impair functioning across school, home, and social environments
Externalizing behavior outward-facing actions that disrupt the environment, including aggression, defiance, impulsivity, and rule-breaking
Internalizing behavior emotional and psychological struggles directed inward rather than outward
Comorbity the simultaneous presence of two or more diseases or medical conditions in a patient
Schizophrenia a chronic, severe brain disorder that causes individuals to interpret reality abnormally, often involving hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking
Aggression behavior intended to cause physical or psychological harm to another person or object, often driven by anger, frustration, or a desire for dominance
Enuresis the involuntary or intentional release of urine (wetting) in children old enough to have bladder control
Encopresis repeated, involuntary passing of stool into clothing in children aged 4 or older who are already toilet trained
MD mandatory review process held by an IEP team when a student with a disability faces a change of placement
FBA a, systematic process used to identify the underlying purpose or "function" of a student's challenging behavior
BIP a personalized, school-based plan designed to help students replace disruptive behaviors with positive ones
PBIS evidence-based, tiered framework used in schools to create a safe, positive, and proactive learning environment
IAES temporary, alternative placement for a student with a disability who has violated specific school
