| asexual | A type of reproduction involving only one parent and producing identical offspring. |
| clone | An organism genetically identical to its single parent in asexual reproduction. |
| oviparous | Animals that lay eggs which develop and hatch outside the mother's body. |
| viviparous | Animals that give birth to live young that develop inside the mother's body. |
| ovoviviparous | Animals whose eggs develop inside the mother and hatch internally before birth. |
| organism | Any living thing capable of growth, reproduction, and response to stimuli. |
| asexual reproduction | Reproduction involving one parent producing genetically identical offspring. |
| binary fission | A form of asexual reproduction where one parent cell divides into two identical cells. |
| budding | Asexual reproduction where a new organism grows from the parent’s body. |
| regeneration | The ability to regrow lost body parts; in some animals, it produces new individuals. |
| fragmentation | Asexual reproduction where an organism breaks into pieces, each forming a new individual. |
| parthenogenesis | Asexual reproduction where offspring develop from unfertilized eggs. |
| amoeba | A single-celled organism that reproduces by binary fission. |
| budding | Asexual reproduction where a small growth develops into a new organism. |
| offspring | The new individual produced by reproduction. |
| parent organism | The original organism that produces offspring. |
| genetic variation | Differences in DNA among individuals; not produced in asexual reproduction. |
| paramecium | A single-celled organism that reproduces by binary fission. |
| hydra | A simple animal that reproduces asexually through budding. |
| sponge | A simple aquatic animal capable of budding and regeneration. |
| wasp | An insect capable of parthenogenesis in some species. |
| starfish | An animal capable of regeneration and fragmentation. |
| aphid | An insect that can reproduce by parthenogenesis. |
| bee | An insect where males can develop from unfertilized eggs (parthenogenesis). |
| lizard | A reptile in which some species can reproduce by parthenogenesis. |
| coral | A marine organism that can reproduce asexually by budding or fragmentation. |
| planaria | A flatworm capable of regeneration and fragmentation. |
