respiratory therapeutic drug treatments

antihistamine used to calm autoimmune (allergic) reactions, interrupts inflammatory pathway, ex. benadryl
antitussive cough suppressant (can cause pneumonia)
bronchodilator dilates bronchi
decongestant shrinks swollen mucus membranes and blood vessels in upper respiratory tract (URTract) to relive pressure and congestion
expectorant thins and loosens mucus in the airway to make it easier to cough up or be process by lymphatic system, ex. mucinex
mucolytic thins and loosens mucus in the airway to make it easier to cough up or be process by lymphatic system, ex. mucinex
inhaler aerosolized steroids (corticosteroids)
