What is texts? Written beliefs, stories and moral codes of behaviour
What is symbols? images with deeper meaning
What is spaces? particular locations in spaces, such as an altar
What is places? particular locations set aside for the purpose of worship
What is times? seasonal date or event significant to the religion
What is artefacts? objects that help connect to ultimate reality
What is social structure? organised ways religion builds leaderships and community
How does social structure help adherents find meaning? (think support and encourage) provides support and guidance and encourages shared values
What is sacred stories? important stories that explain a religion's origins or values
How does sacred stories help adherents find meaning? (lessons and connections) provide life lessons and connects believers to their traditions
What is rituals? set of actions and gestures with a symbolic meaning
How does rituals help adherents find meaning? (belonging and expression) builds a sense of belonging and help express beliefs
What is ethics? moral guidelines that teach us what is right or wrong
How does ethics help adherents find meaning? (guide and positive) guides difficult decisions and encourages positive relationships
What is spiritual experiences? personal and powerful moments when someone feels connected to something greater than themselves
What is an adherent? a member of a religion with a weaker connection that can strengthen or weaken depending circumstances
Provide meaning life can feel random, explains why we exist and people feel why life matters
Unite adherents people feel isolated, shared rituals and beliefs and sense of commiunity and belonging
Anchor beliefs confusion in a complex world, creates stable belief system and certainty and identity
Answer big questions fear of death and suffering, afterlife beliefs and meaning in suffering and establishing senses of hope and comfort
