Principles of Gov
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Popular Sovereignty | Power belongs to the people. The government only exists because the people give it permission to rule, mainly through voting. |
| Limited Government | Government is not all-powerful. Everyone, including leaders, must follow the law and the Constitution. |
| Checks and Balances | Each branch can limit the power of the other branches to prevent any branch from becoming too powerful |
| Separation of Powers | Government powers are divided among three branches so no single branch has too much control. |
| Judicial Review | Courts have the power to decide whether laws or government actions violate the Constitution. |
| Federalism | Power is shared between the national government and state governments. Both levels have their own responsibilities. |
