D-Day (Operation Overlord) Huge Allied invasion mounted to retake France from the Germans.
Battle of Stalingrad Battle during which the Red Army forced the Germans out of a Soviet industrial center.
Isoroku Yamamoto Japanese admiral who decided that the US fleet in Hawaii had to be destroyed.
Kamikaze Literally means divine wind; Japanese aircraft making a deliberate crash on an enemy target.
Douglas MacArthur US general who commanded Allied forces in the Pacific.
