Majority of media representations focus on women's sex appeal, encouragements for women to be 'sexual agents' still results in women objectifying themselves
What is an evaluation for Women as Independent? New Media, like right wing male podcasts, still objectify and denounce women and encourage young men to do the same
What is an evaluation for Illusion of Equality? Women are shown to be more independent in new and traditional media like films and magazines
According to Easthope, how are Men presented as Naturally Male? Men's domineering, aggression, competition and violence s shown to be biologically determined, justifying harmful masculinity as inevitable and unchangeable
What is an evaluation of Naturally Male? Post Modernism: Society is too uncertain to define men and masculinity, therefore we cannot justify masculinity as natural
According to Connel, what is Hegemonic Masculinity? There are many types of masculinity, but the current, dominant and correct masculinity involves men encouraged to be strong, superior to women, successfully sexually and economically and heteronormative
What is an evaluation of Hegemonic Masculinity? Outdated/Post Modernist: A rise in metrosexuality and cultural chaos means that there is a wide range of different types of masculinity, masculinity can no longer be defined
What is Toxic Masculinity? The media represents and promotes the aspects of masculinity that are negative and harmful to both men and women: violent, sexist, homophobic, aggressive, emotionally unavailable, sexually successful, physically strong, hyper independent
