variable an unknown piece of information that can be changed/varied
independent the horizontal axis also known the x axis. This information gathered is unaffected by the amount of information gathered. This is considered the input value.
dependent the vertical axis is also called the y axis. This information is considered the output value and it depends on an input values (the independent values)
Frequency refers to how often an event occurs
Linear the data follows the pattern of a line
nonlinear the data is not represented in a linear pattern
slope the slope of a line describes how steep the line is and if it positive (rising) or negative (falling)
correlation a statistical method used to determine if there is a connection or relationship between two or more sets of data
positive correlation correlation appears as data trending in a linear pattern with a positive slope (rising slope)
negative correlation appears as data trending in a negative slope (declining slope)
no correlation data no recognizable pattern
The Line of Best Fit also called a trend line is a line that be drawn through the data of a scatter plot that represents most of the data; how the data is trending. Typically, a line of best fit is only drawn when there is a correlation between data points.
