CIVIL WAR

Fugitive Someone escaping or on the run from the law
Abolitionist someone who wanted to END slavery
Underground Railroad system of people and routes to help lead slaves to freedom
Free States States that didnt allow slavery before the Civil War
Slave States States that allowed Slavery
Blockade to block entry or exit with ships or troops.
Emancipation freedom from slavery or control
Assassination killing of high-ranking leader for political reasons.
Union The United States of America; fought on the opposite of the Confederacy.
Confederacy 11 Southern states that seceded from the Union.
Draft law that requires men of certain age to join the military
Secede / secession leave or break away
