Technologies have changed how we live and work. Technologies behind these changes have one thing in common: they deal with information
Three emerging technologies that will have great impact on the future: -AI -5G -IoT
Fifth Generation Cellular Networking (5G) considerably at handling information then prior generations of cellular networking
Internet of Things (IoT) an almost limitless network of connected sensors that are embedded into physical objects (ex. smart homes)
Artificial Intelligence (AI) a family of technology that approximates human cognitive abilities
Virtual Reality (VR) a fully immersive experience in which the technology makes you sense that you are in a different environment
Augmented Reality (AR) systems overlay information on top of real-world elements
Mixed Reality takes AR a step further by combining elements of the real and virtual worlds allowing users to interact with both physical and virtual worlds
DIK Hierarchy Data-> Information-> Knowledge-> Wisdom
Connectedness information requires connecting data elements to give them context and meaning
Usefulness information that is interpreted and applied is useful, leading to knowledge
Information Literacy know when information is needed and be able to locate, evaluate, and effectively use that information
What does poor information literacy lead to? information asymmetries
What are three Business uses of Information? -communication -decision making -support processes -some use information as a product
Business Process a set of coordinated activities that lead to a specific goal or outcome
Examples of Information Careers: software developer, computer systems analyst, auditor, financial analyst
Data raw symbols or unconnected facts
Information processed data that is useful
Connecting Data Elements combines bits of data giving the data some context and meaning
Information Analysis Careers people in this career use systems to retrieve, report on and analyze information contained in systems
Knowledge information that is applied to some decision or action
