How are Ethnic Minorities often represented as Deviant Law Breakers in the Media? Ethnic minorities are often represented as criminals with black people twice as likely to portray criminals in dramas or films and black criminals twice as likely to be reported on in the news
How are Ethnic Minorities represented as the Source of Problems in the Media? Often represented as negative or an invading force or threat. Immigrants are portrayed as illegal terrorists whilst established minorities are presented as a threat to British culture and jobs and the cause of crime
How are Ethnic Minorities represented as having Limited Talent in the Media? Often portrayed in a limited number of roles or with a limited number of skills. Often portrayed in low paid jobs or stereotypical roles, rarely shows them to be academic.
According to the GMG, how does the Media portray Developing and Non Capitalist Countries? The media mostly focuses on natural disasters, corruption, disease, poverty or terrorism. This makes it appear as though less capitalist countries are chaotic and dangerous
How are Muslims portrayed in Media? Often portrayed as being the cause of terrorism. The activities of a small group of Muslims are exaggerated to appear as a large and constant threat. Around 90% of news stories represent Muslims as negative, backwards and wrong

Cute (Shown as adorable), Consumers (Shown to enjoy buying), Little Angels (Shown as innocent and idealised), Little Devils (Show as cheeky and disrespectful but appealing and funny), Victims (Show as in danger of murder and abduction and abuse)
How are the Youth represented? Under represented, often negative representation, used to create moral panic through exaggerated criminal behaviour, views of the youth are often ignored
How are the Elderly represented? Grumpy (Shown to always complain), Burden (Shown to need support from government and family), Infantile (Shown to need help with personal care), Demented (Shown as easily confused and forgetful), Second Childhood (Shown to have free time and care free)
How are the Elderly represented differently depending on Class and Gender? Males are portrayed as respectable authority figures, females are often ignored and under represented. Middle and upper class are often presented as deserving of respect and leadership, whilst working class are negatively portrayed

Disabled people are rarely given speaking roles in shows and are shown as abnormal, disabled journalists are often limited to content focusing on disabilities

The disabled are limited to mostly negative representations: Pathetic, an object of violence or ridicule, evil, or super cripple: a disabled person represented as having extraordinary powers, causing unrealistic expectations of real disabled people
According to the GMG, why are the Disabled represented a Disabled Scroungers? Disability is negatively represented due to them being reliant on benefits. Disability is presented as a lifestyle choice to encourage society to be critical of the non-working, this is because the bourgeoisie want the disabled to work and be exploited
What is an evaluation of Under Represented Disability? Progress has been made to have more disabled representation in media, for example, Lucy Martin, a weather show host with only one arm is not tokenistic as he job does not correlate to her being disabled
What is an evaluation of Stereotype Representations of Disability? Prosumers/Citizen Journalists combat negative stereotypes by protesting online against media that has poor representation
