Define: Chordate an animal phylum that is made up of fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Some are vertebrates and some are invertebrates.
Define: Notochord it is a rod-like structure that supports the body of a developing chordate.
4 characteristics of a chordate -notochord -bilateral symmetry -dorsal hollow nerve cord -ONE MORE
Fish- how do they get oxygen? - how do they move? fins help fish move and gills help fish get oxygen.
4 characteristics of an amphibian -lay eggs that do not have hard coverings -young amphibians live in water and have gills -most adult amphibians develop lungs and live on land. - three-chambered hearts
4 characteristics of reptiles - waterproof skin and covered in scales -Three-chambered hearts -have lungs throughout their lives -fluid-filled eggs with leathery shells
4 characteristics of birds -still feathers that enable them to move in the air - birds have beaks and they do not chew their food -their digestive systems include gizzards. -lay fluid-filled eggs with hard shells
4 characteristics of mammals - have hair or fur covering their bodies. -mammary glands produce milk that feeds young mammals. -4 chambered hearts -warm blooded
how are Cartilaginous fish structured? lightweight, flexible skeleton made of cartilage rather than bone.
Some fish have other structures?- bony fish bony skeleton, a protective gill
Birds have a structure to grind food? with the gizzard
animal classes Mammalia, Aves, Reptillia, Amphibia, fish
