TermDefinition
Bolsheviks An organization representing the revolutionary working class of Russia (under the leadership of Vladimir Lenin and he was a communist).
Communist That workers eventually should own the means of production and that collective ownership would lead to collective prosperity and a just society.
Russo-Japanese War Both Russia and Japan wanted to expand their power into Korea and Manchuria (Japan won).
Sun Yet-Sen The leader of a republic revolution that overthrew Qing power.
Chinese Republic A sovereign state build to overthrow the Qing Dynasty.
Three People's Principles A book (by. Sun Yet-Sen) to elaborate on continuing Confusion principles such as: Democracy, Nationalism, and Livelihood.
Young Turks A group of reformers emerged when the Ottoman's prosperity started to decline; they advocated for constitution like those of Europeans states. They also advocated for Turkification.
Porfirio Diaz A president who oversaw a period of stability and some economic progress.
Francisco Madero An opposition candidate who ran for president against Porfirio Diaz which led to his arrest. After his escape he set up revolutionary offices in El Paso, commander of Francisco "Pancho" Villa.
Mexican Revolution Because of the arrest of Francisco Madero, the growing opposition to Diaz's strong-armed policies, accommodation to foreign powers, and opposition to land reform.
Francisco "Pancho" Villa Francisco Madero troops: they defeated Mexican troops sending Diaz into exile.
Emiliano Zapata A revolutionary leader who began the actual process of redistributing land to impoverished peasants.
Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) Formed in 1929; widely criticized as corrupt, the PRI dominated Mexican politics. Until 2000, all presidents were PRI members.
