respiratory system breathing conditions/sounds

apnea temporary interruption of breathing
bradypnea slower than normal breathing
cheyne stokes respiration ("death rattle") unusual breathing pattern, periods of apnea, followed by gradually increasing respirations
dyspnea difficult/painful breathing
eupnea good/normal breathing
hypernea excessive breathing during inhalation/exhalation
hyperventilation "excessive breathing" w/ tachypnea, often results in low CO2 levels in blood (cover mouth w/ bag so CO2 corrects itself)
hypoventilation shallow breathing, normal rate
orthopnea position of patient affects breathing (easier to breathe sitting up rather than laying down)
tachypnea fast breathing, greater than 20 breaths per min
rales/rhonchi/stridor/wheeze abnormal breathing sounds
