Precedent An act or decision that serves as an example for others to follow
Cabinet Group of advisors to the president
Tariff A tax on imported goods
Alien Belonging to a foreign country or nation
Sedition When someone uses words, speech, or action to stir up rebellion, riots, or violence against the government
Judicial Review The ability of the Supreme Court to evaluate decisions by the legislative branch
Manifest Destiny The belief that America had the right to own all land between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans
Industrial Revolution Period of time with an increase of factories and manufactured goods
Nullify make legally null and void; invalidate.
Embargo an official ban on trade or other commercial activity with a particular country.
Monroe Doctrine U.S. foreign policy stating that European powers could no longer colonize or interfere with independent nations in the Americas.
Neutrality The refusal to take part in wars between nations
Domestic Policy A government’s policy within a nation’s borders
Foreign Policy A plan of action toward other nations
Impressment Forcible seizure of men for military service
Nationalism Excessive pride in one’s country
