Weathering The process that breaks rock into smaller pieces over time.
Physical Weathering When rocks break apart without changing what their made of.
Abrasion When rocks rub against each other and wear down.
Chemical Weathering When rocks change because of chemicals like water or air.
Oxidation When oxygen reacts with minerals and rock like rust forming.
Acid Precipitation Rain or snow that has acid in it and can wear away rocks.
Erosion The movement of rock and soil by water wind ice or gravity.
Deposition When moved rock and soil are dropped in a new place.
Flood Plain Flat land next to a river that floods easily.
Delta Land made of sediment where the river meets an ocean or lake.
Alluvial Fan A fan shaped pile of sediment at the bottom of a mountain.
Ground Water Water stored under ground soil or rock.
Shoreline The place where land meets water.
Beach Sandy or rock land
Sandbar A ridge of sand built up into shallow water.
Barrier island A long narrow island that protects the main land from waves.
Dune A hill of sand made by wind.
Loess Fine soft soil made of tiny wind blown particles.
Glacier A huge slow moving river of ice,
Glacier Drift Rocks and dirt left behind by a glacier.
Creep Very slow downhill movement of soil.
Rockfall When rocks start to fall from a cliff.
Landslide When a large amount of rock and soil slides down hill quickly.
Mudflow A fast moving flow of wet mud and dirt down a slope.
Mountain A tall land form that rises high above the land around it.
Lake A large body of water surrounded by land.
River A flowing stream of water that moves towards a lake ocean or another river.
Coastline The edge of land where it meets the ocean.
