hypothyroidism causes - thyroidectomy, autoimmune destruction, radioactive iodine Sx - bradycardia, weight gain, cold intolerance, constipation, fatigue treatment - levothyroxine
addison's causes - infection, autoimmune destruction of adrenal cortex Sx - hyperpigmentation, decreased: glucose, Na, water, increased: K, anorexia, N/V, diarrhea, hypotension treatment - high protein and cards diet, meds: glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid
cushing causes - females, overuse of cortisol meds, tumor Sx - moon face, buffalo hump, obesity with thin extremeites, increased: glucose and Na, decreased K and Ca, HTN treatment - adrenalectomy, avoid infection, if tumor: admin chemotherapeutic agents
dwarfism causes - genetic Sx - short stature, proportional body, delayed/absent puberty treatment - GH replacement, supportive care
acromegaly causes - tumors Sx - joint pain, enlarged hands feet and facial bones, thick skin/sweating, HTN, sleep apnea, carpal tunnel treatment - remove tumor, control GH
giantism causes - tumor, genetic syndrome Sx - rapid and excessive growth, large hands and feet, delayed puberty, headache or vision changes, muscle weakness/joint pain treatment - remove tumor, radiation therapy, medications
SIADH causes - CNS problems (tumor), pulmonary diseases, meds Sx - concentrated low urine, fluid overload, hyponatremia, HTN, tachycardia, N/V treatment - decrease fluids, seizure precations, meds: loop diuretics, vasopressin antagonists, removal of tumor
DI causes - brain tumor/head trauma, infection CNS, failure of renal tubules Sx - diluted & lots of urine, polydipsia, dehydration, OHTN, muscle pain, tachycardia treatment - increase fluids, ADH replacement (vasopressin/demopressin), IV hypotonic saline
posterior pituitary gland - hormone and disorders ADH - SIADH (increased) and DI (decreased) Cortisol - addison's (decreased) and cushing (increased)
anterior pituitary gland - hormone and disorders GH - dwarfism (decreased), acromegaly and giantism (increased)
thyroid - hormone and disorders T3/T4 - hyperthyroidism (increased), hypothyroidism (decreased)
parathyroid - hormone and disorders calcium - hyperparathyroidism (increased) and hypoparathyroidism (decreased)
