TermDefinition
Indigenous People The first people to live in an area. Members of a tribal group, develop different cultures, members of multiple tribes, and have lived in North America for thousands of years.
Tribal Sovereignty The inherent authority of tribal nations to self govern its own citizens and land
Culture The socially transmitted beliefs, values, institutions, behaviors, traditions, and way of life of a group of people that encompass other attributes and products such as language, literature, music, arts, artifacts, and food.
Tradition The transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation
Contribution Traditions, artifacts, foods, beliefs, and values that indigenous people taught and are still use today
