TermDefinition
climate the prevailing weather conditions over a long period of time
albedo the measure of reflectivity of a surface related to solar radiation
insolation the measurement of the sun's energy that makes contact with the earth's surface
angle of insolation the angle at which the sun's rays strike the surface of the earth. acts as the main factor of solar radiation intensity.
zenith the point in the sky directly above the observer's head. 90 degrees from the horizon.
positive feedback loop. a repeating process that increases in strength over time. Will continue to increase in strength until the feedback loop is interrupted.
absorber any material, gas, or surface that takes in radiation from the sun and converts it to another form of energy.
reflector any material, gas, or surface that solar radiation bounces off of and returns to space.
trade wind persistent winds that blow from 30 degrees north and south to the equator.
hadley cell massive atmospheric convection cells that bring warm air from the equator to 30 degrees north and south latitude.
coriolis effect the deflection winds caused by the CCW rotation of the earth.
