| diploid | a cell that has two sets of paired chromosomes |

| homologous chromosomes | paired chromosomes that have the genes for the same set of traits in the same order |
| meiosis | the process through which one diploid cell divides and forms four haploid cells |
| asexual reproduction | when one parent reproduces and the offspring is identical |
| disadvantages of asexual reproduction | no genetic variation |
