| Hiroshima | Japanese city that was hit with the first atomic bomb on August 6, 1945. |
| D-Day | Coordinated Allied invasion of Nazi-controlled France on June 6, 1944. |
| Holocaust | The Nazi program exterminating Jews under Hitler. |
| Zoo Suit Riots | Confrontations between soldiers and Los Angeles Mexican-American teenagers. |
| Double-V Campaign | African Americans goal of victory over the Axis AND equal rights at home. |
| Good Neighbor Policy | U.S. pledged that the US would no longer intervene in the internal affairs of Latin American countries. |
| Neutrality Acts | Laws passed in the late 1930's that were designed to keep the US out of international conflicts. |
| Manhattan Project | Secret US program for the construction of the atomic bomb. |
| Munich Pact | A 1938 agreement between Great Britain and Germany to appease Hitler. |
| Okinawa | Site of important battle near Japanese mainland; last battle before atomic bombs; Allies won. |
| Unconditional Surrender | Giving up to an enemy without any demands or requests. |

| Sabotage | To deliberately destroy or damage. |
| United Nations | An international organization formed after WW2 to promote international peace, security, and cooperation. |
| Totalitarianism | A political system in which the government has the total control over the lives of individual citizens. |
