Hiroshima Japanese city that was hit with the first atomic bomb on August 6, 1945.
D-Day Coordinated Allied invasion of Nazi-controlled France on June 6, 1944.
Holocaust The Nazi program exterminating Jews under Hitler.
Zoo Suit Riots Confrontations between soldiers and Los Angeles Mexican-American teenagers.
Double-V Campaign African Americans goal of victory over the Axis AND equal rights at home.
Good Neighbor Policy U.S. pledged that the US would no longer intervene in the internal affairs of Latin American countries.
Neutrality Acts Laws passed in the late 1930's that were designed to keep the US out of international conflicts.
Manhattan Project Secret US program for the construction of the atomic bomb.
Munich Pact A 1938 agreement between Great Britain and Germany to appease Hitler.
Okinawa Site of important battle near Japanese mainland; last battle before atomic bombs; Allies won.
Unconditional Surrender Giving up to an enemy without any demands or requests.
Espionage Spying
Sabotage To deliberately destroy or damage.
United Nations An international organization formed after WW2 to promote international peace, security, and cooperation.
Totalitarianism A political system in which the government has the total control over the lives of individual citizens.
Anti-Semitism Hostility to or prejudice against Jewish people.
