Seafloor spreading a process by which new seafloor is formed from the magma rising from Earth's diverging oceanic plates.
Continental Drift a theory describing the gradual movement of continents on Earth.
Pangea The name of the supercontinent that is currently believed to have existed on Earth billions of years ago.
Elasticity The ability of rock to be stretched and then return to its original position once the stress has been removed.
Deformation a change in the features of a rock in response to stress
Stress The amount of force being applied to a rock or surface
strain change in volume, size, or shape that results from stress
Brittle Describes objects that break easily when a force is applied to them. See also "ductile"
Ductile Describes objects that bend, stretch, or flow when a force is applied to them. See also "brittle"
