TermDefinition
conventions are the standard features of writing,speaking, reading, and listening
Nouns thing or person
Pronouns replaces a noun
Verbs action verbs, helping verbs
Adjectives modify or describe a noun
Adverbs modify or describe a verb, an adjective or another adverb
Prepositions link a noun to another word
Conjunctions join words, sentences, or clauses together
Interjections short exclamation that is sometimes inserted into a sentence
Parallel construction is a way of joining similar ideas and giving them emphasis through repetition
phrase is a group of words that acts as a single unit in a sentence, but it lacks either a subject or a predicate or both
Noun phrase is made up of a noun and its modifiers in the sentence
Verb phrase is a group of words working together to act as a verb
Adjectival phrase is a group of words acting as an adjective
Adverbial phrase is a group of words acting as an adverb
