Methane a colorless odorless flammable gaseous hydrocarbon CH4 that is a product of biological decomposition of organic matter and of the carbonization of coal, is used as a fuel and as a starting material in chemical synthesis, and is the simplest of the alkanes
Greenhouse Gas any of various gaseous compounds (such as carbon dioxide or methane) that absorb infrared radiation, trap heat in the atmosphere, and contribute to the greenhouse effect
Ural Mountains mountain system in Russia and Kazakhstan extending from the Kara Sea to the steppes north of the Aral Sea
Black Sea sea between Europe and Asia that is connected with the Aegean Sea through the Bosporus, Sea of Marmara, and Dardanelles and receives the Danube and several other rivers
North Atlantic Drift a strong ocean current driven by thermohaline circulation
Siberia vast region of northern Asia chiefly in Russia extending from the Ural Mountains to the Pacific Ocean and from the Arctic Ocean into northern Kazakhstan
Caspian Sea salt lake between Europe (the European parts of Russia and Azerbaijan) and Asia
Scorched Earth Policy a military strategy of destroying everything that allows an enemy military force to be able to fight a war

Collective Farm a farm especially in a Communist country formed from many small holdings collected into a single unit for joint operation under governmental supervision

Loess an unstratified usually yellowish brown deposit found in North America, Europe, and Asia and believed to be chiefly deposited by the wind

Typhoon a hurricane occurring especially in the region of the Philippines or the East and South China seas
