| conclusion | summary that restates the claim |
| claim and counterclaim | an opinion statement, a claim made to rebut a previous claim |
| perspective | your opinion of attitude towards something |
| point of view | who is telling the story |
| primary purpose | main reason it was written |
| relevant vs. irrelevant | important, applicable; not important, random |
| primary or primarily | the main reason |
| connotation | emotion or idea that comes to mind with a certain word |
| emphasis | special importance, value, or prominence given to something |
| contribute | to help to cause or bring about |
| inference/ inferred | a conclusion based on evidence and reasoning |
| analogy | a comparison between two different things |
| allusion | a reference to something well know outside of that text |
| omit/omission | to leave something out |
| antonym | the opposite |
| synonym | the same |
| stanza | a paragraph in a poem |
| dialogue | the conversation |
| maintain focus | to keep someone's attention |
| acknowledge an opposing viewpoint | neutrally identifying a counter argument and showing an understanding of a different perspectives |
| convey meaning | to communicate in a way that helps you understand the meaning |
| active vs. passive meaning | active: when you are doing something, passive: something is being done to you |
| dash | used when there is an abrupt change in thought |
