A&P II Exam 2

Covers blood, vascular system, immune system, and lymphatic system

QuestionAnswer
What are arteries? blood vessels that carry blood away from heart, control distribution, muscular wall
What are arterioles? teeny arteries, arterial flow often said to ‘perfuse’ as in the inferior mesenteric artery perfuses the large intestine. Thin walls with three tunicas, controls blood flow to tissues, feed capillary beds
What are cappilaries? exchange system, some are toward arteriole side, some more toward venule side
What is a venule? teeny veins, smaller ones only have tunica intima, larger ones have 3 tunics. They drain cappilary beds
What is a vein? carry blood to heart or flow toward heart, some specialized venous networks may perfuse thru other organs on way to heart (portal system) often say they ‘drain’. Thin-walled vessels with large lumen, little smooth muscle, and valves.
Where is most of the blood? In the systemic veins
Elastic Arteries Large Artery with well developed elastic lamina, they conduct blood in high pressure areas to organs
Muscular Arteries Thick walled arteries with well developed tunica media, controls blood flow to organs, regulate blood pressure
What characteristics play a role in blood pressure? Blood volume(water loss through kidneys and water gain), cardiac output (stroke volume and heart rate), peripheral resistance (obstructions, vessel length, blood viscosity, and vessel radius)
What does the tunica intima consist of? endothelium, basal lamina, subendothelial connective tissue, internal elastic lamina
What does the Tunica media consist of? smooth muscle cells and external elastic lamina
What does the Tunica externa consist of? tunica adventitia

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
