| hot spot | a volcanic region thought to be fed by an underlying mantle plume |
| seismic wave | vibrations of energy that travel through the Earth's layers, typically generated by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or large explosions |
| volcano | an opening in the Earth's crust through which molten rock (magma), gases, and debris escape from the interior |
