Cell transport

QuestionAnswer
cell transport (transporte celular) movement of materials into and out of a cell (movimiento de materiales dentro y fuera de una célula)
cell membrane (membrana celular) thin outer layer of the cell that controls what enters and leaves (capa delgada exterior de la célula que controla lo que entra y sale)
semi-permeable (semipermeable) allows some things to pass but not everything (permite que algunas cosas pasen pero no todo)
homeostasis (equilibrio interno) balance inside the cell (equilibrio dentro de la célula)
protein (proteína) a special molecule in the membrane that helps the cell (molécula especial en la membrana que ayuda a la célula)
receptor protein (proteína receptora) protein that receives messages (proteína que recibe mensajes)
transport protein (proteína de transporte) protein that helps move materials through the membrane (proteína que ayuda a mover materiales por la membrana)
ATP (ATP / energía) energy used by the cell (energía usada por la célula)
concentration (concentración) amount of a substance in one place (cantidad de una sustancia en un lugar)
passive transport (transporte pasivo) movement from high to low concentration without energy (movimiento de alta a baja concentración sin energía)
active transport (transporte activo) movement from low to high concentration that needs energy (movimiento de baja a alta concentración que necesita energía)
diffusion (difusión) natural movement from high to low concentration (movimiento natural de alta a baja concentración)
osmosis (ósmosis) movement of water from high to low concentration (movimiento de agua de alta a baja concentración)
facilitated diffusion (difusión facilitada) movement from high to low using a protein helper (movimiento de alta a baja usando una proteína ayudante)
endocytosis (endocitosis) process when the cell takes material into the cell (proceso cuando la célula mete material dentro)
exocytosis (exocitosis) process when the cell pushes material out (proceso cuando la célula saca material)
pinocytosis (pinocitosis) type of endocytosis that takes in liquid (tipo de endocitosis que mete líquido)
phagocytosis (fagocitosis) type of endocytosis that takes in solid food (tipo de endocitosis que mete comida sólida)

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
