TermDefinition
Renewable resource Resources that can be replaced in a short amount of time. (Soil, sun, crops, people, plants, trees, air, animals, and water.
Non-renewable resource resource Resources that cannot be replaced quickly. It takes millions of years. (Coal, oil, natural gas, silver, gold, diamonds, aluminum, and gems.)
Fossil fuels These are formed from the remains of prehistoric animals and plants that were buried in layers of rock and subjected to large amount of heat and pressure
Satellite An object that orbit the Earth. It is technology that allows for the detection of illegal logging, mining, and mining exploration, optimizing, and protecting ecosystems on a large scale.
Drone An aerial vehicle that is controlled remotely and is used for a rapid high resolution, aerial mapping, environmental monitoring and data collection. They are employed for conservation specialist for things like tracking wildlife, monitoring Forest Hills
Sensor A device of tax response to inputs from the physical environment, like light, heat, motion, or pressure, converting them into a miserable signals. They can be used to monitor soil water and air quality.
Geographic information system Powerful computer framework that captures manages analyzes and visualize geographically referenced data. It is used to analyze and monitor ecosystems, allowing managers to track, environmental changes, simulate, future scenarios,
Solar panels Devices that convert sunlight directly into electricity using semiconductor materials
Wind turbine Devices that convert the kinetic energy of wind into electricity using large aerodynamic blades to power a generator
Hydroelectric dam Structures built across rivers to stormwater and reservoirs, using the force of gravity, fed falling water to turn turbines and dry generators, producing renewable, clean electricity
