monotonous (adj.) – boring because it never changes
gauge (v.) – to measure or judge something
reeds (n.) – tall, thin plants that grow near water
channels (n.) – paths where water flows
arid (adj.) – extremely dry
gored (v.) – injured by being stabbed or pierced
trudged (v.) – walked slowly with effort
receding (adj.) – moving backward or shrinking
scythed (v.) – cut down quickly and violently
trek (n.) – a long, difficult journey
emaciated (adj.) – extremely thin and weak from hunger
clangor (n.) – loud, harsh noise
torrents (n.) – heavy, rushing amounts of water
looting (n.) – stealing during chaos or war
skittered (v.) – moved quickly with small, light steps
