Greenhouse gases Gases that trap heat in Earth’s atmosphere.
Greenhouse effect The process where greenhouse gases trap heat and warm Earth.
Climate The average weather in an area over a long time.
Human A person; relating to people.
Absorption of heat Taking in heat energy.
Atmospheric heating Warming of Earth’s atmosphere.
Water vapor (H₂O) Water in gas form; a greenhouse gas.
Carbon dioxide (CO₂) A gas from breathing and burning fuels; a greenhouse gas.
Methane (CH₄) A strong greenhouse gas from animals, waste, and gas production.
Nitrous oxide (N₂O) A greenhouse gas from farming and burning fuels.
Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) Man-made gases once used in cooling; greenhouse gases.
Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) Man-made cooling gases; powerful greenhouse gases.
Ozone (O₃) A gas that protects Earth in the upper atmosphere but can trap heat near the ground.
Burning fossil fuels Using coal, oil, or gas for energy, releasing greenhouse gases.
Refrigerant A chemical used in cooling systems like air conditioners.
Respiration The process of breathing in oxygen and breathing out carbon dioxide.
Natural forest fires Wildfires caused by nature (like lightning).
Emissions Gases released into the air.
Temperature How hot or cold something is.
Precipitation Water that falls from the sky (rain, snow, sleet, hail).
Agriculture practices Methods used in farming and raising animals.
Volcanic eruptions Explosions from volcanoes that release lava, ash, and gases
