QuestionAnswer
Nuclear Fusion a process where two small atoms combine or fuse to form a bigger atom; when this happens a lot of energy is released
Solar Radiation the energy that comes from the sun
Core the center of the sun where all the action happens
Radiative Zone surrounding the core is the radiative zone
Convective Zone outside the radiative zone is the convective
Thermonuclear reaction nuclear reaction where atomic nuclei (the centers of atoms) fuse together to form a bigger nucleus. Reactions only only happen under extreme conditions of high temperature and high pressure—that’s why we call it “thermo-” (heat) nuclear.
Solar Wind a stream of charged particles (mostly electrons and protons) that flow out from the Sun into space.
Solar Flare a sudden and powerful burst of energy from the Sun’s surface
Solstice term for two special times a year when the sun is at its highest and lowest position in the sky. It creates the longest and shortest days of the year
