| temperature | the degree or intensity of heat present in a substance or object, especially as expressed according to a comparative scale and shown by a thermometer or perceived by touch. |
| Thermometer | a tool to measure thermal energy. |
| thermal energy | the internal energy present in a system due to the random movement, vibration, and collision of its atoms and molecules |
| heat | he transfer of thermal energy between physical systems due to a difference in temperature, flowing spontaneously from hotter to colder objects |
| conduction | the transfer of heat between physical touch |
| convection | the transfer of heat between currents |
| Radiation | the transfer of heat between rays |
| solid | atoms that are tightly together moving slower and hard |
| liquid | atoms are more spread apart and its fluid moving faster than a solid. |
| gas | atoms are very spread apart with more thermal energy |
| melting | a change from a solid to liquid |
| freezing | a change from liquid to solid |
| evaporation | change from a liquid to a gas |
| boiling | the change from a liquid to a gas |
| condensation | the change from a gas to a liquid |
| endothermic | heat energy entering |
| exothermic | heat exiting the atom |
