| Augmented | Made greater; The conspirators want to increase their power by killing Caesar |
| Entreated | Begged or pleaded; Portia begs Brutus to trust her with his secrets |
| Conspiracy | A secret plot to commit harm; Brutus, Cassius, and others plan Caesar’s assassination |
| Resolution | Strong determination; Brutus resolves to kill Caesar for Rome’s good |
| Exploit | A bold or heroic act; Brutus views killing Caesar as a noble act |
| Imminent | About to happen; Caesar’s assassination is close |
| Emulation | Envy or jealousy; Cassius’ jealousy of Caesar fuels the conspiracy |
| Whet | To sharpen; Conspirators “whet” their resolve for murder |
