When did the Boston Sons of Liberty write to John Wilkes Booth? (Date) June 6, 1768.
What did the Boston Sons of Liberty congratulate John Wilkes Booth for in their letter? His return to England and election to Parliament.
What did the committee hope John Wilkes Booth would do? Continue to fight for the rights of both Britain and the American colonies during a political crisis.
What qualities of John Wilkes did the Sons of Liberty praise? His honesty and commitment to freedom.
What were the Sons of Liberty worried about? They didn’t want to lose their rights or become “slaves” under British rule.
What did they send along with the letter? A pamphlet called "Letters from a Farmer in Pennsylvania" that shared their beliefs.
What did they ask Wilkes to do? Write them back.
What law were the Sons of Liberty protesting in 1766? he Stamp Act, a tax law from Britain.
How did they protest the Stamp Act? They held a pretend trial for the stamped paper and then destroyed it.
What did they do with fake British officials (effigies)? Paraded them around, burned them at the Liberty Tree, and made speeches.
What happened to the Liberty Tree? They trimmed it and put up a sign to remember the protest.
What was the point of the protest? (Stamp Act) To show colonists were together and against unfair British laws.
What happened in Charleston, South Carolina, during the Stamp Act protests? People hung fake figures (effigies) of British officials and the Devil to protest the tax.
What did the signs on the gallows say? “Liberty, and no Stamp-Act” and other things against the tax and British leaders.
What did protestors do with the effigies at the end? (South Carolina) Paraded them, broke windows at the Stamp-man’s house, then burned them.
What happened because of the protests in Charleston? The man in charge of the Stamp Act in South Carolina quit his job.
What happened at a similar protest in Halifax, Nova Scotia? People used another fake Stamp-man, made fun of greedy leaders, and cheered for people who helped fight the Stamp Act.
