QuestionAnswer
Kinesics The study of body movement, gestures, and posture.
Proxemics The study of how people and animals use space, reveals the impacts of distance as related to nonverbal behavior.
Chronemics The study of how humans use and structure time.
Haptics How touch affects the communication process.
Noise Forces that interfere with the communication process. Can be either external and/or internal.
The Model A transactional process involving a Sender, a Receiver (who decodes the message), and the Environment (physical location and personal history).
Sender The one who encodes and delivers or sends the message.
Message Words and actions of the initiator.
Channel The medium through which a message passes from sender to receiver.
Receiver The one that decodes the message.
External noise Relates to the physical environment, such as a noisy room.
Internal noise Includes personal emotions and semantics.
Feedback Refers to the discernible response of the receiver.
Environment Is the physical location and personal history surrounding the communication.
Hearing Is biological.
Listening Is psychological. It involves attending (focusing on stimuli) and acknowledging (validating the speaker).
Self-Disclosure Deliberately revealing significant, private information about oneself.
Public Speaking Requires analyzing three things: The Audience, The Occasion, and The Speaker.
"First Call" and Removal (The Transactional Aspect) Specifically refers to the "business" side—gathering authorizations and the body transfer.
"First Call" and Removal (Home Removals) Typically require two people.
"First Call" and Removal (Third-Party Services) A major disadvantage is they lack the authority to speak for your firm or answer specific family questions.
Protocol Immediately upon arrival, you should determine what equipment is needed before bringing the cot in.
The GPL (General Price List) Must be given to the family before any discussion of goods or services.
Vital Statistics Essential data for the death certificate (e.g., Social Security Number).
Military Honors The DD-214 (Discharge Document) is required for veteran benefits.
The Statement of Goods and Services The formal contract between the family and the firm.
Nonverbal Communication People often feel very different than the words they speak reflect.
Pet Therapy Is a trained animal that's goal is to improve a patient's physical, social, emotional, or cognitive functioning.
The Committal Is often the final ritual in the funeral experience.
Hearing vs Listening Hearing is being in range of and receiving sound. Listening involves hearing, attending, acknowledging, understanding, and remembering.
The "death story" Where they were or what they experienced when the loved one died.
