The study of waves and their propeties

| waves | is a Longitudinal wave that travels only through matter. |
| mechanical waves | is a wave that travels only through matter. |
| transverse wave | a wave in which the disturbance is perpendicular to the direction the wave travels. |
| Wavelength | Longitudinal waves are measured from one compression to the next compression or from one rarefaction to the next rarefaction. |
| Frequency | of a wave is the number of times the pattern repeats in a give time. |
| Longitudinal wave | causes the particles in a medium to move parallel to the direction that the wave travels. |
| sound wave | is a longitudinal wave that can travelonly through matter. |
| medium | a material in which a wave travels. |
| Amplitude | the maximum extent of the repeating quantity from equilibrium. |
| Loudness | is how you perceive the energy of a sound wave. |
| Intensity | is the amount of sound energy that passes through a square meter of space in one second. |
| pitch | In the lab fever pitch you determined that the sound changed based on how long the spring was and by how much force you applied. |
