The study of waves and their propeties

TermDefinition
waves is a Longitudinal wave that travels only through matter.
mechanical waves is a wave that travels only through matter.
transverse wave a wave in which the disturbance is perpendicular to the direction the wave travels.
Wavelength Longitudinal waves are measured from one compression to the next compression or from one rarefaction to the next rarefaction.
Frequency of a wave is the number of times the pattern repeats in a give time.
Longitudinal wave causes the particles in a medium to move parallel to the direction that the wave travels.
sound wave is a longitudinal wave that can travelonly through matter.
medium a material in which a wave travels.
Amplitude the maximum extent of the repeating quantity from equilibrium.
Loudness is how you perceive the energy of a sound wave.
Intensity is the amount of sound energy that passes through a square meter of space in one second.
pitch In the lab fever pitch you determined that the sound changed based on how long the spring was and by how much force you applied.
