Waves

The study of waves and their properties

TermDefinition
Waves A wave is a disturbance that transfers energy from one place to another without transferring matter.
mechanical waves A mechanical wave is a wave that travels only through matter
medium a material in which a wave travels
transverse waves A transverse wave is a wave in which the disturbance is perpendicular to the direction the wave travels
Longitudinal A longitudinal wave causes the particles in a medium to move parallel to the direction that the wave travels
Sound waves A sound waves I a longitudinal wave that can travel only through matter.
Water waves Water waves is a friction between the winds at sea and the water forms water waves.
