Waves

The study of waves and their properties.

TermDefinition
Waves A wave is a disturbance that transfers energy from one place to another without transferring matter
Mechanical waves A mechanical wave is a wave that travels through matter
Medium A material in which a wave travels
Transverse waves A transverse wave is a wave in which the disturbance is perpendicular to the direction the wave travels
Sound waves A longitude wave that can travel only through matter.
Water waves Water waves is a friction between the winds at sea and the water forms water waves.
Longitudinal A longitudinal wave causes the particles in a medium to move parallel to the direction that the wave travels
amplitude The amplitude of a wave is the maximum distance that the wave moves its rest position.
Wavelength The distance between one point on a wave to the same point on the next wave is the wavelength.
Frequency The frequency of the wave is the number of times the pattern repeats in a given time.
Pitch The perception of how high or low a Sound seems is pitch.
