Waves

The study of waves and their properties

TermDefinition
Waves Is a disturbance that transfers energy from one place to another.
mechanical is a wave that travels only through matter
Medium A material in which a wave travels is called a Medium
transverse wave Is a wave in which the disturbance is perpendicular
Longitudinal wave Causes the particles in a Medium to move parallel
sound wave Is a longitudinal wave that can travel only through matter
Amplitude the maximum extent of a vibration or oscillation, measured from the position of equilibrium.
frequency The frequency of a wave is the number of times the pattern repeats in a given time
wavelength The distance between one point of a wave to the samthe maximum extent of a vibration or oscillation, measured from the position of equilibrium. e point on the next wave is wavelength.
pitch Pitch the perception of how high or low a sound seems is pitch
