tachypena (TAK-ip-NEE-ah) rapid breathing
bradypnea (BRAD-ip-NEE-ah) slow breathing
hypopnea (hai-POP-nee-ah) shallow breathing
hyperpnea (hai-PERP-nee-ah) heavy breathing
dyspnea (disp-NEE-ah) difficulty breathing
orthopnea (OR-THOP-nee-ah) able to breathe only in an upright position
hyperventilation (HAI-per-VENT-ih-LAY-shun) overbreathing; the condition of having too much air flowing into and out of the lungs; leads to hypocapnia
hypoventilation (HAI-po-VENT-ih-LAY-shun) underbreathing; the condition of having too little air flowing into and out of the lungs; leads to hypercapnia
dysphonia (dis-FOH-nee-ah) bad voice condition (also known as hoarseness)
epitaxis (EP-ih-STAK-sis) a nosebleed
rhinorrhagia (RAI-noh-RAY-jee-ah) excessive blood flow from the nose (another term for a nosebleed)
rhinorreha (RAI-noh-REE-ah) runny nose
bronchospasm (BRONG-koh-spazm) involuntary contraction of the bronchus
phrenospasm (FREN-oh-spazm) involuntary contraction of the diaphragm (AKA hiccups)
pleuralgia (ploo-RAL-jee-ah) pain in the pleura
pleurodynia (PLOO-roh-DIN-ee-ah) pain in the pleura
throacalgia (THOH-rak-AL-jee-ah) chest pain
bronchorrhea (brong-koh-REE-ah) discharge from the bronchi
expectoration (ek-SPEK-toh-RAY-shun) coughing or spitting material out of the lungs
hemoptysis (hee-MAWP-tih-sis) coughing up blood
sputum (SPYUT-um) mucus discharged from the lungs by coughing
