cell the smallest, basic unit of life that makes up all living things.

cell wall a rigid outer layer providing structural support and protection to plant, bacterial, and fungal cells.

organelle a tiny, specialized cell part that performs a specific job.
ribosome tiny cellular machines that synthesize proteins.
nucleic acid are large biological molecules that store and transmit genetic information in all living cells.
selectively permeable a barrier that lets some materials pass through while blocking others.
cytoplasm the fluid inside a cell has a low pH, often signaling metabolic stress or dormancy.
mitochondria are organelles that produce most of the energy for cells.
endoplasmic reticulum a network of membrane in cells that manufactures, processes, and transports proteins and lipids.
golgi apparatus a cell organelle that modifies, packages, and ships proteins and lipids.
