TermDefinition
Temperature Is the average amount of kinetic energy of the particles in a substance
Thermoneter A thermoneter is an object to measure temperature
Thermal energy Is the total energy amount of kinetic energy off the particles in an object
Heat Is a flow of energy between objects at different temperatures.
Conduction The transfer of heat energy by molecules touching each other
Convection Heat is transferred by movement of currents within a fluid. Particles rise and fall because of density differences.
Radiation Is transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves
Solid Definite shape and volume
Liquid Definite volume, changing shape
Gas No definite shape or volume
Melting The change of a solid to a liquid by absorbing heat
Freezing The change of a liquid to a solid by realising heat
Evaporation The change of a liquid to a gas by absorbing heat
Boiling The change of a liquid to a gas by absorbing heat
Condensation The change of a gas to a liquid by realising heat
Endothermic The molecules absorb energy from the environment to make the phase change occur (S=>L=G)
Exothermic The molecules RELEASE energy from the environment to make phase change occur (G=>L=>S
