| Third Person Limited | The Narrator focuses in on one person. |
| Third Person Omniscient | The Narrator doesn't focus in one person, but every character. |
| Central Theme | The overarching idea or lesson of a text. |
| Central Idea | The main idea. |
| Transition/Transitional Phrase | A word of a group of words that bridges two ideas in writing. |
| Phrase | A group of words that aren't random but still make sense and are shorter than a sentence. |
| Revision/Revised | The act of reviewing and changing. The state of having been changed. |
| Formal vs. Informal tone | Formal tone is characterized by standard English, complex sentences, objectivity, and a lack of contraction or slang. Informal is basically the opposite. |
| Objective Summary | A concise version of a text with no opinion whatsoever. |
| Concise/Precise | Concise means straight to the point. Sort of like precise, but not really. Succinct. |
| Conclusion | End or inference |
| Claim or Counterclaim | Claim: Argument Counterclaim: opposing viewpoint |
| Perspective | Your opinion or interpretation |
| Point Of View | Who is telling the story |
| Primary Purpose | The main reason it was written. |
| Relevant/Irrelevant | Relevant is applicable and applies to the text. Irrelevant is random and non-applicable. |
| Primary or primarily | Primary is main or first. |
| Connotation | Emotion or idea that goes along with the meaning of the word. |
| Emphasis | Special importance, value, or prominence given to something. |
| Contribute | To help to cause or bring about. |
| Inference/Infer/Inferred | A conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning. |
| Omit/Omission | Leave something out |
| Analogy | Extended metaphor |
| Allusion | Reference |
| Antonym | Opposite meaning of a word (good; bad) |
| Synonym | Same meaning of a word (good; excellent) |

| Convey Meaning | To communicate in a way that helps you understand what something means. |
| Active vs. Passive Voice | Active- when the subject is actually doing something. Passive- something is happening to the subject. |
