| Third Person Limited | a third person point of view where the narrator focuses on one character |
| Third Person Omniscient | a third person point of view where the narrator focuses on more than one/all character(s) |
| Transitional Phrase | a word/group of words that bridge two ideas together [in writing] |
| Phrase | a group of words that make sense |
| Central Theme | the overall idea or lesson in a text (what do you learn?) |
| Central Idea | the main idea of text (what is the text about?) |
| Revision | To look/re-examine something and make alterations to it |
| Formal Tone | writing that is structured, somewhat serious, and professional (You all) |
| Informal Tone | writing that is casual, unprofessional, and conversational (Y'all) |
| Objective Summary | the concise version of text - without opinion |
| Precise | exactly; pinpoint |
| Concise | straightforward; short (succinct could be a synonym) |
| Conclusion | the end OR inference |
| Claim | an argument |
| Counterclaim | opposing argument |
| Perspective | your opinion or interpretation |
| Point of View | who is telling the story? |
| Primary Purpose | the main reason that a text was written |
| Relevant | pertinent; applicable |
| Irrelevant | random; non-applicable |
| Primary/Primarily | Main; first |
| Connotation | the emotion or the idea that goes along with the meaning of a word |
| Emphasis | special importance, value, or prominence given to something |
| Contribute | to help/to cause or bring about |
| Inference | a conclusion based in evidence and reasoning |
| Omit/Omission | to leave something out |
| Antonym | the opposite of a certain thing |
| Synonym | the same/similar or a certain thing |
| Analogy | an extended metaphor comparing two different things |
| Allusion | a reference to a significant real-life thing |
| Interrogative | a question |
| Indicative | indicating/stating something |
| Subjunctive | a wish for something (I wish I didn't have to teach this junc) |
| Imperative | a command! (exclam. for emphasis) |
| Conditional | under the right conditions, something might happen (if/then) |
| Stanza | a paragraph in ✧poetry✧ |
